| TernopilTernopil is a city in western Ukraine located on the banks of the Seret River. Ternopil is one of the biggest cities of Eastern Galicia. It is located approximately 130 kilometers to the east from Lviv. The city was founded in 1540 by Jan Amor Tarnowski as a Polish military stronghold and a castle. Ternopil is the center of the region, known for its castles, caves, waterfalls and rivers. Ternopil is also known for its great architectural and cultural monuments. Tourist attractions worth visiting in Ternopil include the Dominican Church, the castle, a statue of Danylo Halytsky and other monuments. The major attraction and the special pride of Ternopil is the lake in the very heart of the city with the square 300 hectares. Only two European cities have the lake in the center and one of them is Ternopil. On the embankment of the Ternopil Lake takes place the festival of forge art. The Church of Exaltation of the Cross which is the architectural monument of the 16th century is situated near the famous lake. In the center of the city on the Independent Square there is a wonderful monument of the baroque architecture of the 18th century – the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The well known attraction of the city is also the Ternopil Castle, the pearl of the city. It is one of the most ancient structures which remained up to nowadays.
